Speedy Attack Targets Web Servers Running on Old Linux KernelsSpeedy Attack Targets Web Servers Running on Old Linux Kernels. Hackers have hit web servers running unsupported version of the Linux 2.6 kernel released seven years ago. Over 400 different hosts were affected each day on March 17 and 18, with attackers successfully compromising more than 2700 websites at the time of publishing. According to Cisco Systems:

“Attackers compromise an existing website, append a line of JavaScript to multiple .js files hosted on the site. This causes visitors to load and run a new JavaScript file served from a second compromised host. Utilising a two stage process allows attackers to serve up a variety of malicious content to the visitor.”
